By the end of this century, our energy consumption will be 2.5 times higher than it is today,
with the resulting increase in CO
2 emissions. In order to achieve a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of around 20% (assuming
that the current pattern of electric power generation holds), between 40% and 50% would have to be
generated from renewable sources. And we do need to do much better than that...we need the ET (energy technology) revolution
!!
..
'"Offshore
Renewables" integrates today's cutting edge technology for tomorrows
utilities.
Our existing energy model, based on fossil sources, is showing clear signs of exhaustion. For
this reason, one of the most important challenges in the coming years will be to progress towards a
model based on non-contaminating renewable energy sources with a guaranteed supply at a competitive price.
Fact 1.Electricity: there is
significant agreement among the academic community that the current and future energy needs of the
whole world could be met many times over by solely taking advantage of the solar radiation received
by the surface of our planet. Let's do it in the best locations: the equatorial belt.
Fact 2.Liquid fuels : Biofuel is today's best answer,
but Biofuel makes only sense if
we do not deprive people of food and if we can grow very large
quantities of biomass. By using green algae as a renewable fuel basis,
we can effectively tackle the problem of arable land use for crops and
the efficient, rapid growth of the desirable replacement of fossil
fuels. Doing this needs a lot of space:
Fact 3. Surface needs: about 70% of our planet's surface is water. It is about time for us to use a tiny bit of this wide and open space in a useful, respectful and sustainable way. The oceans are our best option for the upcoming energy challenges.(see more about
why offshore here)
By combining these three points and integrating the very best of todays renewable energy solutions to built tomorrows power plants, we make the world a better place.
We believe that the world needs
solutions that will allow our development to be more sustainable. Scientists tell
us that
climate change is a reality, and at Offshore Renewables we believe the time has come to pursue paradigm change solutions and put them into practice.
